I based my costume off the robot in the 1995 movie “Judge Dredd”. I started working on it in June of this year. The costume stands roughly 7′ 4″ tall (I used painter’s stilts, so I could walk fairly smoothly in it.) and weighs approximately 85lbs. (Yes, it was hot and heavy. Whew!) I made the larger parts mostly from foam pads usually used for exercise or childrens’ play rooms. The rest was a combination of resin, ridgid foam I poured into molds that I got from things like juice containers to clay sculptures I made, poster board, glue gun glue, and aluminum tape just to name a few. I was able to get the fingers to bend by running beveled cut (at the joints) small pvc tubings that ran through the fingers. (If you attach a string to the tip of the finger and run it through the tube and pull, the tube will bend where you cut it.) Oh, and I bought lights from an Auto Zone for the eyes that ran on two six volt batteries which I hide in the chest plate. A lot of work but I’m very pleased with the end result.
I hope you like him!
