Kidnapped Mermaid Costume Tutorial

Setting out to design a costume that had it all: a scary pirate, a sexy mermaid, a cool optical illusion and built-in cup holders, ModMischief came up with this awesome kidnapped mermaid costume. As she puts it, “Why choose between dressing as a sexy mermaid or a scary pirate when you could be both!”

Using materials found at a thrift store, the pirate and mermaid costumes are pretty straight forward. As for building the illusion, the treasure chest is made out of a styrofoam cooler and the model pirate is held up with a backpack.
