This homemade crayon was not that hard to make. I used orange and black felt. I found a combination of fonts on Word to make the Crayola as close to the crayon as possible. I sewed all the black pieces on once I figured out how large to make the orange base. I found a wave design on the net and used that over and over to make the wavy black lines. Sewed them all together, added some copper pipe insulation at the top for sound roundness and used cardstock with orange felt for the tip. Cut some arm holes and used some elastic around the neck to pull in the felt around his neck area. There you have it, a cute orange crayon.

My son wanted to be a cuddly turtle for Halloween. The body was a white cotton sweatsuit that I dyed green. I made the back with a cardboard base, green fabric, and lots of stuffing. A yellow tail and yellow rim completed the shell. The shell is velcro’d on so he could remove it when he wanted. The chest is thick batting topped with yellow fabric and I used green thread to create segments, The eyes are styrofoam ball halves and green felt eyelids.

I have always loved playing the game of Tetris. I thought it would be fun to create the costumes for Halloween. The difficult part was figuring out what kind of boxes to use because they had to be the same size. I went with medium sized u-haul boxes. It took 4 boxes for each costume. Initially, I cut the flaps off the boxes. Then I used spray paint to coat the outside. Two coats were needed for the lighter colors. The technical part was using the black duck tape to assemble the Tetris pieces. This was the longest process because all the lines had to be perfect. Overall this process took about 4 hours to make. It was a fun experience. The final stage was cutting the face and armholes. The Tetris pieces were an exciting costume to build and the first homemade costume I have ever made. I would say it is an inexpensive and easy costume to construct.
