Homemade from scratch Super Mario riding on Yoshi. Son didn’t want to be plain old Super Mario, so he suggested a costume that looked like he was riding on Yoshi. So, this was the result.

The Toadette mushroom hat was created by using a chef’s hat with pink satin sewn to the hat and stuffed with egg crate mattress pad pieces. The hair was created by stuffing styrofoam balls inside pink tights. The hat and hair was covered with white felt circular dots. The vest was hand sewn using red satin with gold satin trim. The dress was made from pink linen that flared out. The final touch was hot pink tights.

Video game conventions like Gamescon 2010 make a fantastic opportunity for fans to show off their… uhh, fandom. While Gamescon 2010 probably won’t beat out the Tokyo Game Show for most costumed fans in one place, there were some excellent cosplays this year. From Raving Rabbits to scary zombie witches, and featuring all kinds of bright spikey hair-dos, Gamescon 2010 had characters from tons of video games, including kid friendly games like Pokemon and more adult games like Left 4 Dead.

This homemade Princess Peach costume from Super Mario Bros. didn’t cost much to make since the dress was found at a thrift shop.

As fans of pretty much everything pop culture, we love pop culture mash-ups like these Mario vs Star Wars Mash-up paintings by Misha, an LA artist. It’s comical to see characters from the Super Mario Bros. video game franchise in recognizable Star Wars costumes and settings. Her paintings portray Princess Peach as Princess Leia, Mario as Luke Skywalker, Luigi as Han Solo and of course, Bowser as Darth Vader. Yoshi also makes an appearance as Yoda and Walugi as 3CPO and Wario as R2D2.

Misha says she’s a big fan of video games.

“The funniest of them, is ‘Luigi in Carbonite,’” she said.
